Introducing the New Health Savings Account! A new program has been created in the health insurance industry to help you take control of your health care expenses and reduce your overall health care costs. It is known as the Health Savings Account (HSA). What exactly is an HSA, you might ask? Simply put, it is a tax-favored savings account which continues to provide comprehensive, quality medical coverage. One of the best features about this program is that it is available to everyone (except those entitled to Medicare). In addition, the money in an HSA account can be used for any qualified medical expense not covered on the health plan, including the deductible. To get the benefits of an HSA, the law requires that this account be combined with a high deductible health insurance plan, with an individual deductible of at least $1,000 or a minimum of $2,000 for the entire family. High deductible health insurance costs less than traditional $250 or $500 deductible coverage because the insurance company does not have to process and pay claims for routine, low dollar medical care. One may save a maximum of 100% of the plan's annual deductible or the IRS maximum of $2650 for individuals, $5250 for families. If you are 55 or older, you may save an additional catch-up amount in the HSA. In addition to the many benefits already listed, the contributions to the HSA account are 100% tax deductible (like an IRA). Also, withdrawals for medical expenses are NEVER taxed. The HSA is an interest-earning account. Additionally, any funds left in the account at the end of the year may be rolled over to the next year's funds, so there is no risk for loss. Overall, the HSA accounts are a great way to save for medical expenses, and it is never too soon to start saving! Please feel free to call the office at 303-721-1145 during normal business hours of 8:30-5:00pm Monday-Thursday or 8:30-4:00pm on Friday with any questions, and an expert customer service representative will be happy to assist you. For more HSA information, visit our website at www.RoperInsurance.com and click on the HSA button. ______________________________________________________________
